Innovation, Sustainability, and Social Impact in Venice

Updated: Mar 5

INVOLVED! InnovationLab – Civic Training for Sustainable Projects is a new participatory programme promoted by The Home of The Human Safety Net Venice and curated by Baba Jaga, CRSCC, and GreenerEU to activate creativity, resilience, and critical thinking as levers for change.

Through workshops, InnovationLabs, and co-design activities, this programme brings together sustainability, European project design, and community empowerment, transforming ideas into initiatives with real impact on local communities.

Venice - Towards a European laboratory for social and civic innovation

Venice is not only a city of heritage and culture — it is also becoming a European laboratory for social and civic innovation. Within this context, the programme represents a strategic alliance in the fields of sustainability, education, and community empowerment. The activities bring together students, professionals, and local actors to work on real challenges affecting cities and communities.

Co-creation with participants and coordinators of the Innovation Labs

The topics of the InnovationLabs include stakeholder mapping, impact measurement, European funding opportunities, and the development of sustainable projects capable of generating long-term social value.

Rather than focusing on traditional training models, the programs emphasize co-creation and practical application of the knowledge of the participants and lead coordinators of the activities.

In a city like Venice — facing challenges such as climate change, demographic transformation, and tourism pressure — these initiatives contribute to building more balanced and future-oriented development models.

In the light of this programme, Venice continues to position itself as an international hub for social innovation, where foundations, startups, and local communities work together to design new models of sustainability, education, and civic participation.
