Innovation, Sustainability, and Social Impact in Venice

The Partnership Between GreenerEU and The Human Safety Net

GreenerEU collaborates with The Human Safety Net, the foundation promoted by Assicurazioni Generali and based at the Procuratie Vecchie in St. Mark’s Square, to develop civic education and social innovation pathways in Venice.

Through workshops, InnovationLabs, and co-design activities, this partnership brings together sustainability, European project design, and community empowerment, transforming ideas into initiatives with real impact on local communities.

Venice - Towards a European laboratory for social and civic innovation

Venice is not only a city of heritage and culture — it is also becoming a European laboratory for social and civic innovation. Within this context, the collaboration between GreenerEU and The Human Safety Net, promoted by Assicurazioni Generali, represents a strategic alliance between sustainability, education, and community empowerment. These activities bring together students, professionals, and local actors to work on real challenges affecting cities and communities.

Co-creation with participants and coordinators of the Innovation Labs

The topics of the InnovationLabs include stakeholder mapping, impact measurement, European funding opportunities, and the development of sustainable projects capable of generating long-term social value. Rather than focusing on traditional training models, the programs emphasize co-creation and practical application of the knowledge of the participants and lead coordinators of the activities.

Collaboration with new needed approaches

Based in the historic Procuratie Vecchie in St. Mark’s Square, The Human Safety Net provides a global platform dedicated to unlocking human potential and supporting vulnerable communities, while GreenerEU contributes with expertise in sustainable tourism, innovation processes, and European project development.

This collaboration also reflects a broader shift toward venture philanthropy and ecosystem-based innovation. By combining the international social mission of The Human Safety Net with GreenerEU’s approach to sustainable development and territorial regeneration, the partnership helps create scalable solutions for social inclusion and community resilience.

In a city like Venice — facing challenges such as climate change, demographic transformation, and tourism pressure — these initiatives contribute to building more balanced and future-oriented development models.

Through this partnership, Venice continues to position itself as an international hub for social innovation, where foundations, startups, and local communities work together to design new models of sustainability, education, and civic participation.
